On September 19, the four-day “2022 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference (WICV 2022) and China International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Exhibition” (hereinafter referred to as the “WICV 2022 Exhibition”) came to a successful conclusion at the China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Venue). Approved by the State Council, WICV 2022 is jointly hosted by the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Transport, and the China Association for Science and Technology. The event is co-organized by the Equipment Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, the China Electronic Information Industry Development Institute, the People’s Government of Shunyi District, Beijing, the Machinery Industry Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Chinese Electrical Engineering Society. Beijing Zhongqi Sifang Exhibition & Convention Co., Ltd. serves as the executing agency for the exhibition and related events. The WICV 2022 Exhibition is China’s only national-level professional platform dedicated to new energy and intelligent connected vehicles, and it is also the first large-scale international specialized auto show held in Beijing this year.
The WICV 2022 exhibition was groundbreaking and innovative in its organization, featuring outstanding highlights and a dazzling array of attractions, prominently reflected in the following aspects.
Highlight 1: Dual-channel display, three modes, and 12 exhibition areas
The WICV 2022 exhibition takes “serving the entire industrial chain and value chain of intelligent connected vehicles” as its main theme, innovating its exhibition model to truly create value for exhibitors. This year, the total exhibition area exceeds 40,000 square meters. The exhibition adopts a hybrid approach, combining online and offline formats as well as indoor and outdoor spaces, thus creating an all-weather exhibition model. The offline segment has undergone bold innovations, featuring four major sections—“Cross-Chain Collaboration,” “Multi-Intelligence Integration,” “Application Innovation,” and “Future Ecosystem”—and setting up 12 specialized exhibition zones, including the “Complete Vehicle Exhibition Zone,” “Smart Special Zone,” “Connected Car Special Zone,” “Smart Transportation Special Zone,” “New Energy Key Technology Special Zone,” “Digital Security Special Zone,” and “Application Scenarios and Service Special Zone.” The range of exhibits includes various types of smart electric vehicles, autonomous driving cars, as well as in-vehicle smart hardware such as LiDAR and intelligent cockpits.

The specialized exhibition area features exhibits including intelligent connected vehicles, new-energy vehicles, key components for smart cars, autonomous driving solutions, intelligent cockpits, smart chips, AR/VR/MR technologies and products, high-precision maps, charging stations, battery-swapping stations, smart equipment, advanced manufacturing and processing technologies, and more. The total number of exhibitors reached 213, including 53 vehicle manufacturers, 124 companies involved in the intelligent connectivity and upstream/downstream segments of the industry chain, and 36 other related enterprises and institutions. A total of 191 vehicles were on display.
The major vehicle brands exhibiting at the show include: BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, General Motors, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Hyundai, Lincoln, Dongfeng Group, SAIC Group, BYD, GAC Aion, Changan Deepal, Li Auto, NIO, Leapmotor, Zeekr, Geometry, AITO by Seres, and Jihu.
Highlight 3: Introducing the metaverse to enhance interactive experiences
It is worth noting that the exhibition features a section incorporating elements themed around the “metaverse.” A total of 13 companies are participating in this section, showcasing cutting-edge technologies and application scenarios—including intelligent cockpits, intelligent driving, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity, vehicle-road collaboration, artificial intelligence, and human-machine interaction—while integrating distinctive metaverse-themed elements. The section will also host a series of immersive exhibitions and interactive experiences, enhancing the exhibition’s interactivity and appeal, and attracting both professional visitors and the general public to pay attention to the innovation and development of intelligent connected vehicle technologies. This initiative aims to promote scientific literacy, publicize and popularize new technologies, new concepts, and new models for intelligent connected vehicles and future smart mobility.
Highlight 4: The China-Germany cooperation exhibition area and the Korea exhibition area showcase internationalization.
In 2022, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany, the conference organized the “China-Germany Intelligent Connected Vehicle International Forum” centered on cooperation in the new energy and intelligent connected vehicle industries. This forum aims to deepen international cooperation, accelerate industry development, and strengthen multi-party collaboration in organizing the event. The exhibition features a special zone titled “50 Years of China-Germany Cooperation in the New Energy and Intelligent Vehicle Industry,” which has attracted a large number of renowned international companies, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, German KARL, German CIMK, Rosenberger, Hannam High-Tech, Yujin Technology, and Inwandi. The exhibit range covers multiple technological fields, such as ADAS advanced driver-assistance systems, globally leading automotive electrical and electronic systems, cutting-edge automated component manufacturing, fuel cell technology, air filtration systems, automotive material recycling, and testing services—comprehensively showcasing the advanced achievements of China-Germany automotive industry cooperation over the years.
The Korean exhibition area is mainly composed of Sino-Korean joint ventures and wholly-owned enterprises, showcasing cutting-edge smart and connected vehicle technologies and products.
Highlight 5: 125 competing teams engaged in fierce competition; the 30 awards for the 2022 National Intelligent Driving Test Competition were announced.
This year’s competition attracted a total of 125 teams. After fierce competition, 58 teams that earned qualification through the Beijing regional round and the make-up rounds will compete at the outdoor venue located at the Beijing China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Branch). Additionally, 40 teams participated online and 16 teams participated offline in the Connected Vehicle Security Finals, all vying together for the 30 annual awards of the 2022 National Intelligent Driving Test Competition.
Highlight 6: An information security competition is held in the connected vehicle security exhibition area.
To implement the Data Security Law and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s requirements for strengthening data security in connected vehicle networks, the 2022 National Intelligent Driving Test Competition has introduced a new competition focused on connected vehicle information security. This competition features 16 offline real-vehicle test teams from technology companies, universities, research institutes, and key enterprises, as well as 40 online test teams. The competition selects internationally advanced smart vehicle models as real-vehicle targets. By analyzing the network information transmitted by these vehicles, identifying vulnerabilities in their information systems, gaining insight into the architecture and logical algorithms of automotive electronic control systems, and assessing the information security of intelligent connected vehicles, participants will demonstrate their expertise in this critical area.
Highlight 7: A 61-meter-long corridor showcases 64 annual scientific and technological innovation achievements.
In the entrance hall corridor, a special exhibition area has been set up to showcase innovative technological achievements in intelligent and connected vehicles. This exhibition area features 64 of the latest technological innovations that were openly solicited from leading enterprises and technology companies in the field of intelligent and connected vehicles. The selected innovations cover technologies and products related to intelligent and connected vehicles, including complete vehicles, autonomous driving, ICT, power batteries, key components, infrastructure, and the metaverse. The exhibits are displayed on four oversized color graphic panels, each 3 meters high and with a total length of 61 meters.
