November 26-29, bauma CHINA 2024 (Shanghai International Construction Machinery, Building Material Machinery, Mining Machinery, Engineering Vehicles and Equipment Expo) The event was successfully held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. This landmark gathering for the construction machinery industry—a major event that had been absent for four years—boasted impressive, record-breaking achievements in terms of exhibition area, number of exhibitors, and visitor attendance, underscoring its pivotal role as a leading platform in the Asia-Pacific region and providing a comprehensive showcase of cutting-edge breakthroughs and innovative achievements in the construction machinery sector. The substantial increase in the proportion of overseas visitors sends a powerful signal: bauma CHINA has once again become China’s window to the world for construction machinery!

The four-day exhibition was an unprecedented success, with the total exhibition area of bauma CHINA 2024 exceeding 330,000 square meters. The event brought together 3,542 exhibitors from 32 countries and regions—a 24% increase over the previous edition—among whom as many as 700 were international brands. The show attracted 281,488 professional visitors from 188 countries and regions for business discussions and procurement, with overseas visitors accounting for more than 20%. The top ten countries represented among overseas visitors were Russia, India, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Brazil, and Japan.

A summit reunion marks another upgrade in our international journey.

Leading domestic enterprises such as XCMG Group, Sany Group, Zoomlion, Shandong Lingong, Longgong, Shantui, Dingli, Lovol, Southern Road Machinery, Taiyuan Heavy Industry, Hongchang Tianma, and China Railway Construction Heavy Industry—all participated in the exhibition and showcased their customized products and solutions tailored to major overseas markets. Moving from “product exports” to “industrial globalization,” Chinese construction machinery companies are exploring internationalization strategies that suit their own development paths. By leveraging globally optimized resource allocation, they are better positioned to meet the needs of customers worldwide.

International companies—including Caterpillar, Wirtgen, Manitou, Manitowoc, Bomag, Ammann, Sany, Euromac, Hidrobaile, and Herrenknecht—have also eagerly showcased their latest products and technologies, many of which are making their global debut specifically for the Asia-Pacific and Chinese markets. The continually expanding international “circle of friends” at bauma CHINA demonstrates that China’s construction machinery industry cannot do without the world’s technological innovation, while the global construction machinery industry increasingly relies on China’s contributions to its development.

We’ve always regarded China as a globally important market, and this year’s participation in the exhibition has exceeded our expectations. We’ve also signed numerous cooperation agreements on-site.”

Chasing “new” and pursuing “green,” steering a bright future for all.

Sustainable development is one of the core themes of this year’s expo, and “new energy” and “digital and intelligent upgrading” have emerged as new growth drivers for the upgrading of the construction machinery industry. Driven by the “dual carbon” goals, China’s construction machinery industry is accelerating its transition into a new stage of development characterized by high-end, intelligent, and green technologies, breaking away from its domestic investment-driven path dependency and moving toward global markets, thus seizing tremendous opportunities.

Numerous exhibitors showcased a series of “global firsts” at the event, including the world’s largest tonnage rotary drilling rig, the world’s largest tonnage electric-drive horizontal directional drilling rig, the world’s first hybrid-powered mining excavator, the world’s tallest self-propelled straight-arm aerial work platform, the world’s largest tonnage knuckle-boom crane, and the world’s first hydrogen-powered pump truck. From hybrid, electric to hydrogen-powered new-energy equipment, the exhibits have evolved from previously focusing solely on electric products to offering comprehensive, full-lifecycle solutions at this year’s show.

This year, the bauma CHINA exhibition has specially introduced a new “New Energy Technologies” showcase theme, successfully attracting battery and supporting companies such as CATL, Faradion, and Bolite to exhibit together. This move further promotes cross-sector collaboration between new energy enterprises and construction machinery manufacturers, fully empowering the green and high-quality development of the construction machinery industry. Mr. Jiang Yuwei, Director of Heavy Truck and Construction Machinery Solutions at Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Ningde. The introduction stated: “This year’s bauma CHINA exhibition is exceptionally large-scale. At the show, we’ve connected with many overseas visitors, and our customers are highly optimistic about the electrification and green transformation of construction machinery.”

Meanwhile, this year’s expo features several concurrent special forums focusing on cutting-edge topics such as “new energy storage,” “international market competition,” “mechanical standardization,” and “integrated coordination between primary and supporting equipment.” Industry experts and scholars, leading enterprises, and end-users have been invited to join these forums to jointly explore these hot issues, analyze existing development bottlenecks, anticipate future trends, and offer more insightful perspectives for the industry’s diversified transformation.
