This year’s exhibition has reached a new all-time high in terms of scale, with an exhibition area of 50,000 square meters, over 200 exhibitors, and 170 vehicles on display. The number of visitors exceeded 100,000. Three indoor pavilions—W2, W3, and W4—at the new National Exhibition Center have been put into use, alongside two outdoor exhibition areas and ten specialized thematic zones. An outdoor test and demonstration zone for unmanned (autonomous) driving, as well as an outdoor zone for ride-and-drive experience demonstrations, have also been set up. In addition, there are more than 20 concurrent forums and dozens of interactive, educational, and entertaining experience activities, comprehensively enhancing the overall impact of the event.

Among them, emerging automakers like WM Motor, Li Auto, Skywell, NIO, and Guangxi Jiujiuxing have introduced remarkably novel models that have attracted many visitors to stop and admire and take photos.

In terms of components and supporting facilities, leading suppliers of intelligent technologies and electronic information technologies—including Haide New Energy, Four Dimensions Map, Desay SV, SenseTime, Saimu Technology, New Shoreline, New Stone Wisdom, Wanji Technology, ZhiDao Networked (Mogu Car Connectivity), HuaLi Zhixing, Xinda Jie’an, Dasi Ling, Zhongke Anda, Fengming Electronics, Beijing University of Technology Huachuang, Zhongke Xingtú, Aote Beirui, Yijing Technology, Qianfang Technology, Xingyun Interconnect, ZhiXingZhe, YuDao WuJia, Xiangjiang Intelligent Technology, Horizon Information Technology, Fudian Yichong, Xinghe Liangdian, Zhongke Ruixin, Samsung Mechatronics, Zhuhai Junchi, Huhang Industrial, Lutong Electric Appliances, and Lingbo Weibu—as well as suppliers of power batteries, motors, electric control systems, and materials, and charging infrastructure companies—are all showcasing their latest technologies and products in a concentrated exhibition. Companies across the upstream and downstream segments of the industrial chain are actively participating, joining forces to highlight China’s innovative strength in cutting-edge automotive fields and global automotive industry innovation.

More notably, since this conference is the second edition of the World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference, major players from the telecommunications, internet, and smart mobility sectors—including China Mobile, China Unicom, Baidu, Meituan (San Kuai Online), Didi Chuxing, Huaxia Chuxing, and Yangguang Chuxing—have all attended the event.

In addition, the participation of exhibition groups from Israel and Hong Kong, China, as well as overseas exhibitors and special administrative region exhibitors such as HEADSPRING INC. from Japan, has propelled the exhibition to yet another small climax.

This year, exhibitors have put more thought and effort into both exhibit preparation and overall planning, investing more heavily in the process. Their booth designs and installations have become increasingly sophisticated—“simple yet not simplistic.” Many booths feature creative and innovative designs, reflecting trends toward internationalization, thematic focus, stylistic diversity, and personalization, which have significantly enhanced their appeal to visitors.

Third, the “main event”—the autonomous driving demonstration and experience activity—has been comprehensively upgraded, making it the largest-scale autonomous driving demonstration and experience event in China.

The autonomous driving demonstration and experience zone was a new addition to last year’s exhibition. Building on the success of the previous event, this year saw even greater participation from relevant manufacturers, with a total of 15 companies and 38 vehicles taking part in the activity. As far as we know, this is currently the largest-scale autonomous driving demonstration and experience event in China, featuring the most participating companies and vehicles, and it has been enthusiastically embraced by media, guests, and people from all walks of life. The Beijing Automotive Research Institute, BAIC New Energy, Beiqi Foton, BMW China, Audi China, FAW Group, along with autonomous vehicles, driverless sweepers, driverless vending vehicles, and other related unmanned vehicles equipped with technological solutions from companies such as Autobay, Yudao Wujia, ZhiXingZhe Technology, New Stone Age Huitong, Wanji Technology, Xinxian Line, Xingyun Interconnect, Qianfang Technology, Haorui Intelligence, and Guangyi New Energy—both inside and outside the venue—have showcased the latest autonomous driving models and technologies developed by major automakers, drawing considerable attention. The special exhibition areas stand out with their unique characteristics; the collaborative innovation zone for intelligent connected and new-energy vehicles in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the exhibition area celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China—the exhibition showcasing achievements of China’s automotive industry—have become new highlights of the expo.

Last year’s expo specially set up a “Beijing Smart Connected Vehicle and Related Industries Exhibition Zone.” This year, Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei have joined forces to establish the “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Smart Connected and New Energy Vehicle Collaborative Innovation Zone,” jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology together with Tianjin and Hebei. This zone will comprehensively and systematically review, summarize, and showcase the industrialization and market-oriented achievements of new energy and smart connected vehicles in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. In the future, it will facilitate coordinated policies and industrial development among the three regions, enable mutual recognition of testing results, and promote joint pilot demonstrations for the recycling and utilization of power batteries from new energy vehicles across the three regions—thereby accelerating the development of the automotive and related industries in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area. Meanwhile, the Shunyi Smart Connected Vehicle Innovation Ecosystem Demonstration Zone and the Beixiaoying Smart Connected Vehicle Characteristic Town are highlighting and promoting Shunyi—a key hub for the smart connected vehicle industry in Beijing.

This year’s conference coincides with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The organizing committee has specially set up an exhibition area titled “Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China—Achievements of China’s Automotive Industry,” as a tribute to the nation’s 70th birthday. Over the past 70 years, China’s automotive industry has grown alongside the new China—a journey marked by both twists and turns and remarkable achievements. It is a grand, sweeping historical panorama, and even more so, it is the heartfelt journey of several generations of automotive professionals who have devoted their utmost efforts and overcome countless obstacles.

5. The exhibition has attracted soaring popularity, with both professional and general visitors experiencing a significant increase in numbers. The number of international visitors has further grown, and the concurrent interactive experience activities have been exceptionally diverse and engaging, comprehensively promoting cutting-edge technologies in new energy and intelligent connected vehicles.

This year’s exhibition not only attracted numerous government agencies, enterprises, institutions, and industry insiders from China, but also drew large numbers of ordinary citizens, teenagers, and families. Moreover, it garnered extensive attention from international peers and the media, with the total number of visitors exceeding 100,000. Since the exhibition period did not include weekends, group visits accounted for a significant proportion; media interviews and coverage, as well as the number of professional visitors, saw a substantial increase.

Concurrent with the exhibition, a series of engaging, entertaining, and diverse interactive experience activities were held—activities that were highly interactive, fun, and brimming with excitement. In addition to this year’s most anticipated events—the “Smart Connectivity for the Future—Autonomous Driving Demonstration Experience” and the inaugural (Shunyi) New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Promotion Season—other highlights included the “Premium Experience” test-drive events, the “Sharing the Blue Sky” Autumn Car Shopping Festival, the 2019 (6th) Energy-Saving and Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Kids’ Carnival Series, the 2019 (6th) National College Automotive Science and Technology Culture Festival, the 2019 (5th) “People, Cars, and Joy” Photography Contest, the “Protecting the Capital’s Blue Skies” themed event, the “Building an Ecological Home” launch event, the Winter Olympics-themed “Recalling Childhood Innocence” Children’s Balance Bike Competition, and the first China (Shunyi) Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEBS) Test Competition. These concurrent events widely invited professional visitors, ordinary citizens, teenagers, and media representatives to participate. Through enjoyable and educational approaches, these events aimed to popularize and disseminate scientific knowledge, enabling the public to personally experience the allure of smart mobility, bridging the gap between ordinary citizens and cutting-edge technologies, and deepening public understanding and appreciation of new energy powertrains and artificial intelligence applications in automotive products, thereby promoting the adoption of new energy and intelligent connected vehicles.

In addition, specialized launch and promotion events—including the “2020 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference & China International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Exhibition,” the China-Israel Chamber of Commerce’s “Steering Toward the Future: Israel Automotive Technology Enterprises Networking Event,” and the promotional event for the China (Guigang) New Energy Vehicle Industry Park—as well as distinctive concurrent activities such as the 2019 China New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Full-Industry Chain Selection and Award Ceremony and the 2019 Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei New Energy Vehicle Rally Kickoff Event, all vividly demonstrate, from a professional perspective, the crucial supporting role that this international cooperation and exchange platform plays in driving the development of the automotive industry and related emerging sectors.

Following more than 40 countries represented among overseas visitors in 2018, this year we welcomed guests and international visitors from over 50 countries and regions, including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Italy, Turkey, Argentina, Mexico, India, Lithuania, Pakistan, Ukraine, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, to further expand overseas promotion channels for the expo, enhance its internationalization and professionalism, and foster resource leadership and broader cooperation, thereby effectively advancing preparations for the 2020 expo, the organizing committee has specially invited over 80 diplomats from 42 countries, representatives of industry associations, and heads of trade organizations to attend the 2020 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference and the 8th China International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference Promotion Event.
